Winter Solstice Contemplative Evening
Winter calls all of Nature closer to earth. For humans the season can be a spiritual cradle in which to nurture our inner light and prepare for the coming new. In this time of great change, stillness is ever-more necessary to stay peaceful and grounded.
The ancients celebrated Winter Solstice as early as the Stone Age. It is a long-held tradition of honoring the longest night of the year and awaiting the return of the warmth and light of the sun.
As we approach this sacred threshold, the church will be open for a self-guided pause on Wednesday, December 17thfrom 5:30 to 8:00 PM, All Saints Episcopal Church, 800 Abbot Rd., East Lansing. People of all ages who are able to hold silence are welcome into the candlelit sanctuary. Drop in briefly or linger as you wish. The labyrinth will be out and contemplative spaces available with art, poetry, and bits of nature.
Gift yourself this time to simply be . . . to meditate or pray, to greet the growing light.
