We are a fellowship of spiritual directors who support and inspire each other toward integrity, responsibility, and faithfulness in our ministry and service of spiritual direction.
Criteria for Membership
Our members are spiritual directors who meet the following requirements:
1. Documented completion of a recognized spiritual direction training program;
2. Regular meetings with their own spiritual director;
3. Regular supervision with one or more trained (see #1 above) spiritual directors.
Ethical Conduct
Our members accept and follow the Guidelines for Ethical Conduct: Revised
Edition as established by Spiritual Directors International. Please review them at: https://www.sdicompanions.org/docs/guidelines/Flip/guidelines_ethical_conduct.html
Meeting Attendance
Members make a commitment to attend at least one of the three in-person meetings during the academic year, which are usually held the second Friday of October, January, and May from 10 a.m.- 12 noon. Meetings may be virtual if extreme weather or other circumstances prevent gathering in-person.
Programming and Process
Annual programming follows this pattern: The October meeting features a member-led presentation on a particular topic of interest to spiritual directors; in January members share resources that have been valuable to their spiritual direction practice; in May there is a member-led experiential workshop to expand our horizons through creative expression.
Also at each meeting, through brief opening circle updates and guided group discussions related to the program topic, SDN members connect, encourage, and support one another.
Digital Communication and Contributions
SDN maintains a website with interesting and helpful information about what spiritual direction is and who we are as a community of spiritual directors. Members may post a listing on our SDN website Spiritual Director Bios page for a one-time fee of $20.
Interested spiritual directors who meet the above requirements and agree to the Guidelines for Ethical Conduct but do not attend at least one meeting a year, may request to make a post on the SDN website Spiritual Director Bios page for a yearly fee of $25 to be renewed annually after the spring meeting of each academic year.
A minimal balance of funds is maintained by SDN to cover costs. Occasionally, there may be a small fee for members to contribute equally to replenish these funds.
